More Notre Dame

Here are a few more pictures from Notre Dame, primarily the interior.

This Pieta is in the choir of Notre Dame.  The gold cross behind the Pieta was added in the last 20 years. One of the interesting aspects of the interior of the cathedral is the mixture of styles.

Robert stands outside of the confessional, waiting to report all of the impure thoughts he has had since arriving in Paris.  The "confessionals," like the cross in the previous picture are very modern.  They are glass enclosures in which the "penitent" sits across a table from the priest in vestments and has a discussion.

Additional detail from one of the Rose Windows in Notre Dame.

According to the audio tour that we took, this is the "most famous" of the many statues of Mary in the Cathedral

The altar is another of the modern touches in the Cathedral.

The ever-so-holy Reverend Doctor Carl Parker.  Looks tall, right?  Not really.  He's actually only pretending to sit in this photograph.

This solid silver statue of the Virgin Mary is carried through the streets of Paris in procession once a year.

This statuary adorns a crypt in one of the chapels that line the perimeter of the cathedral.

Detail of the face of death from the same crypt.

The priests celebrated Mass in the midst of the ongoing tours of the Cathedral.

One of the many racks of votive candles throughout the Cathedral.  These were the more expensive version.  Tea light votives were 2 euros a pop.

Carl and Robert posing near the gift shop.   Need I say more?

Point Zero.  The spot from which all distances are measured in Paris.
